Born in New York in 1886, Helen Townsend Simpson was a landscape and portrait artist. She exhibited her work in Hartford, Boston, Springfield, and New Haven. She was a member and past president of the Hartford Society of Woman Painters, and a member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the New Haven Paint and Clay Club, the Springfield Art League, the Copley Society of Boston, and the Association of Connecticut Artists.
